This qualification covers the core skills and knowledge to prepare learners for entering the Manufacturing and Engineering sector.

  • What will I learn?

    Modules include but are not limited to:

    • Working Safely and Effectively in Engineering
    • Interpreting and Using Engineering Information
    • Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
    • Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science for Engineering
    • Selecting Engineering Materials
    • Using Computer-aided Drawing Techniques in Engineering
    • Welding
  • How will I be assessed?
    Each unit is assessed by a formal portfolio of written reports, documented practical work and two exams.
  • Where could this course lead to?
    Learners progress on to a Level 3 Engineering course, and apprenticeship or in to employment. Typical job roles include Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer, Electronic Engineer, Materials Fabricator, Processing or Finishing Engineer, Technical Support Engineer and more!
  • What qualifications or experience do I need?
    4 GCSEs at Grade D/3 or above including English and Maths, or a relevant qualification at Level 1 with Merit grade. Learners with lower grades or relevant experience will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from their school or employer. If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.
